The Hard Thing about New Things

It’s not an easy thing, going from 0 to 1. I’ve spent my whole life getting better and better at following instructions only to find myself in a job I hate. What a reward for working hard in high school and college.

Now that I’m out of college, it’s completely on me to make what I want of my life. Admittedly, that has always been true, but it’s easy to delay that realization when you’re surrounded by other twenty-year-olds who act like they’ll be young forever.

So, uncomfortably and with much hesitation, I take the first step towards a better life. A life defined not by fear but by overcoming it. A life defined not by praying for the end of a shitty work day but by doing work that matters for people who care (HT Seth Godin). A life defined not by 1 to n, but by 0 to 1.

Thanks for reading. I’ll try to make it worth your while.

(Additional HT’s to Peter Thiel for the concept of 0 to 1, and Ben Horowitz for the title.)
